PSEB Registration for Freelancers in Pakistan 2025-26 — Save 75% Tax

Last reviewed by , registered tax practitioner

PSEB registration is a no-brainer for any Pakistani freelancer earning foreign income. It costs PKR 1,000/year and reduces your final tax from 1% to 0.25% — a 75% saving.

What is PSEB?

Pakistan Software Export Board, a government body promoting IT exports. Registration confirms you as a legitimate IT/IT-enabled service exporter, qualifying you for the reduced 0.25% final tax under Section 154A.

Registration steps

Visit techdestination.pseb.org.pk. Create an account with your CNIC. Submit your business details (proprietorship for freelancers). Upload CNIC, proof of address, and bank account details. Pay PKR 1,000 registration fee. Approval typically takes 5-10 working days.

After registration

Inform your bank you are PSEB-registered so they apply 0.25% withholding instead of 1% on incoming remittances. Provide your PSEB certificate to the bank. Save copies of all PRCs (Proceeds Realization Certificates) the bank issues — you need these for filing.

Annual renewal

PSEB registration must be renewed annually. Renew on the same portal before expiry. Your reduced tax rate continues only while registration is active.

Frequently asked questions

Is PSEB registration worth it for low-income freelancers?
At PKR 1.5 lac annual export income, you save PKR 1,125 per year (0.75% × 1.5L) — barely covering the PKR 1,000 fee. At PKR 5 lac+, savings clearly exceed costs. But registration also adds credibility for clients and future loan/visa applications.
